OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G Review

When comes to branding - OPPO Reno is often linked to out of the box design and camera-centric features and my last Reno phone was the OPPO Reno2 that launched back in 2019 which featured a more immersive screen and the iconic shark-fin style pop-up camera.

Fast forward to Year 2021, with the latest model - OPPO Reno 6Pro 5G dubbed with “AI Portrait Video Expert” that offers next-level portrait video features such as 'Bokeh Flare Portrait Video', 'AI Highlight Video' and 'Focus Tracking'. In the photography department, 'Flash Snapshot' enabled users to capture clear shots of moving objects.

OPPO Reno Glow

Reno6 Pro 5G offers in two unique colours - Aurora and Stellar Black. The colour option with me is "Aurora" which create a colour shifting pattern from different angles.

Photos Sample

Images taken from the Reno6 Pro 5G are decent good when there's sufficient lighting. The image processing and colour reproduction are eye-pleasing and not over-saturated. In night mode, I did observed that in ultra-wide mode's images are looking slightly better with more details been captured.

Display

The phone features a 6.5-inch curved display with a 90Hz refresh rate that makes a very silky smooth experience! The colours are punchy and outdoor visibility is decent. As for the in-display fingerprint sensor that unlocks instantly!

Software

OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G run on ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11 and some of OPPO's unique flavour features such as the RAM expansion enable user to expand more RAM allocation from on-board storage space from 3GB, 5GB and 7GB.

(Increase RAM capacity)

Here's are some of the key specification of OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G:

  • Android 11 on top of ColorOS 11.3
  • MediaTek Dimensity 1200
  • 12GB of RAM
  • 256GB of internal storage
  • 4500mAh battery
  • 65W SuperVOOC 2.0

Where to buy?

  • OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is available in Aurora and Stellar Black at a retail price of SGD$949.
  • Available at OPPO Concept Stores, OPPO’s Shopee and Lazada Flagship Stores, M1, Singtel and StarHub as well as all authorised retailers.

Verdict?

  • It is undoubtful the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G does take the attention of its design and camera features. However, for its price, it is hard to stack up among other competitions. IF only the Pro Plus version (Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 with better camera hardware) that launched in Malaysia was available here instead, it is probably more appealing and recommendable to others.

Huawei Mate 30 - A glimpse of Google-less phone?

To be honest, out of so many phones with great cameras. The one that caught my attention the most are from Huawei as they partnership with Leica and love the way how Huawei paired up with various type camera sensors onto it. Then came along the infamous widely ban that affects Huawei that limits them from business dealings with United States companies. That includes those Google services on the phone. Huawei quickly reacts and building up their operating system - Hongmeng and it owns Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). But such a ban does not affect Huawei's customer-based, people finding a way to install Google services onto it and it does works smoothly (besides no Google Pay and Netflix limited of Widevine rating). Let's dive back to the phone topic itself - Huawei Mate 30. At first, I was sceptical about it as heard rave opinions on services unable to run on it. After months of thoughts, I'm ready to jump on board and found a way to install GMS. No issue with google sync ...

Pocophone F1 - Back to Xiaomi's Old Roots?

Back in the days, Xiaomi is known for offered the flagship specifications at a very attractive price point. Such as the Mi 3 when it came to Singapore it's around SGD$419 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC.  Looking at the Pocophone F1's overall built quality and the specification being offered, it greatly does reminds me of the good old days. The Pocophone F1 was targeted to the India market mainly due to lack of flagship phones at a reasonable price and another reason is the influx of mid rangers. Poco F1 equipped with top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB of RAM and comes in 3 variants - 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The phone also supports a microSD slot and along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. However, it lacks NFC for wireless payment and it's a plastic construction phone. In short, it is a watered down of Xiaomi's Mi 8 in terms of built quality and its premiums. The phone comes in 3 colors - Navy Blue, Black, and Red. For c...
