(This mini review is back dated on the June 2017. Thanks to Sony and Hardwarezone for selected a few of us for this section.)

Guess which phone brought me into the big phone aka phablet territory? The Sony XPERIA Z5 Premium which has the huge screen ratio at that time with that gorgeous mirror finishes at the back that capture all the selfie or 'wefie' lovers' hearts. Sony stay true to their design language with that gorgeous glass finishes made with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 design without sacrificed the user ergonomic that made a mark of Premium territory. IP68 (dust and water resistance) makes the return to Sony's flagship devices.

Unboxing of Sony XPERIA XZ Premium

Specifications
This is the first QualComm Snapdragon 835 processor equipped phone launched worldwide that paired with 4GB of RAM, huge battery of 3230mAh that enabled you to last all day long and using USB Type-C which configured with Gen 3.1 transfer speeds up to 5Gbps. This is the first 4K HDR display phone and Sony was the first phone marker that breakthrough display department with previous flagship - Z5 Premium. With the updated and better ever before, XZ Premium display, it allows the user to view content with astonishing colors that ever before. Which means with the right source content it enabled richer and more vibrant, better contrast and more light-to-dark details.

Camera
Sony revamps the entire rear camera sensor with a breakthrough technology which called - Motion Eye. It's the world first memory-stacked sensor which built in between the Pixel Area and Signal Processing circuit that result 3 times faster scanning compares to traditional G Lens. The rear 19MP Motion Eye is unique in its own way of recording 960 frames per second for super slow motion playback.

With the update G-Lens, it captures more light, colors and details within a single shot. Using the superior mode, the combination of camera (hardware) and the software auto detect the object whether its gourmet, scenery, low light or landscape with the user's input by focusing point.

It's a useful feature that allow user to capture shots that a traditional camera setup unable to do so. Shots those are in fast moving object like dancing, running or even cooking! Once the user clicked on shutter button, it will take up to 4 best shots and allow user to pick the best one of four.

Here are some sample shots:

Performances
With such top tier camera, Sony 'no cut cost' on the processing chipset. Sony and Qualcomm paired up with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 3230mHa battery. To ensure other overall performance is flawless. Battery Life My usage of using of social media applications, media consumption such as PowerAmp, Spotify, YouTube and intense camera usage and it's last near to 4 hours of Screen-On-Time with estimated 15% of battery juice left.

Fingerprint sensor is the quickest and responsive ever that I came across and it does not fail me once. Press, Tap and Unlocked!

Ran out of battery juice, the phone is quick-charge support and for battery savers there's power-saving modes such as: - Stamina mode that allow user to prolong the battery life by disabling certain functions. - Ultra stamina mode that allow user to prolong the battery life by limiting to your preference application.

In the gaming department on XZ Premium is fantastic as occasionally on light gaming such as Tsum Tsum and Clash Royale. I don't personally find any drop of frame rates and thanks to Snapdragon 835's processing.

Are you looking for a front facing speaker device? Looks no further, XZ Premium has it! Surprisingly excellent media consumption device and the output is loud, crisp and clear without distortion. Thanks to the UFS2.1 storage mechanism, the overall performance is fast, fluid operation with no lag. Switching apps to apps by touching app switch button is totally seamless!

Thanks to the large screen, multi-tasking is excellent where splitting and resize the app proportion to your liking.

Huawei Mate 30 - A glimpse of Google-less phone?

To be honest, out of so many phones with great cameras. The one that caught my attention the most are from Huawei as they partnership with Leica and love the way how Huawei paired up with various type camera sensors onto it. Then came along the infamous widely ban that affects Huawei that limits them from business dealings with United States companies. That includes those Google services on the phone. Huawei quickly reacts and building up their operating system - Hongmeng and it owns Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). But such a ban does not affect Huawei's customer-based, people finding a way to install Google services onto it and it does works smoothly (besides no Google Pay and Netflix limited of Widevine rating). Let's dive back to the phone topic itself - Huawei Mate 30. At first, I was sceptical about it as heard rave opinions on services unable to run on it. After months of thoughts, I'm ready to jump on board and found a way to install GMS. No issue with google sync ...

Pocophone F1 - Back to Xiaomi's Old Roots?

Back in the days, Xiaomi is known for offered the flagship specifications at a very attractive price point. Such as the Mi 3 when it came to Singapore it's around SGD$419 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC.  Looking at the Pocophone F1's overall built quality and the specification being offered, it greatly does reminds me of the good old days. The Pocophone F1 was targeted to the India market mainly due to lack of flagship phones at a reasonable price and another reason is the influx of mid rangers. Poco F1 equipped with top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB of RAM and comes in 3 variants - 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The phone also supports a microSD slot and along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. However, it lacks NFC for wireless payment and it's a plastic construction phone. In short, it is a watered down of Xiaomi's Mi 8 in terms of built quality and its premiums. The phone comes in 3 colors - Navy Blue, Black, and Red. For c...
