OPPO Find X - The power of future technology

It's been four years we haven't had a real flagship phone from OPPO, the last flagship launched was the OPPO Find 7 and 7A equipped with top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC at that time. Was a groundbreaking phone in the camera department.

So... It's 2018, OPPO is back with OPPO Find X with a twist - pop-up camera. This isn't the first time OPPO came out with unique camera technology. Back then, there's an OPPO N3 with a rotating camera which shared as a rear and a back camera to have the same camera quality.

OPPO Find X finally breaks the traditional shell of the typical bezel-less phone by keeping the front and rear camera onto a pop-up sector while keeping the truly full bezel-less screen for excellent viewing experiences.

Unboxing Session
You're welcomed by a super luxurious packaging box with 'Find X' printed on the front. Slide out the yellow box and greets by the phone - Find X. Removing the center compartment are the VOOC charger, VOOC USB Type C cable, Earpiece and a Type C to 3.5mm Headphone adapter. Inside the center, the compartment has a crystal clear casing with it documentation/paperwork. I'll prefer a soft type material casing to goes along with Find X as the hard shell casing doesn't do any protection well enough.

The Find X equipped with top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 2 variants - 128GB or 256GB with 8GB RAM. A large yet sufficient battery powered at 3730 mha. Pairing with a 6.42" AMOLED screen at a 19.5:9 display ratio, resolution 1080x2340, and PPI at 401.

Battery life is amazing even more above moderate usage with gaming component definitely can last the entire day. Even you run out of juice, OPPO's 20W VOOC charging can refill ~50% within 30 minutes.

My last OPPO phone was the OPPO R11S as the software experience I had was not pleasing and my expectation on the Find X kept lower. To my surprise, the software looks well polished in the UI part. Setting menu needs to be clean up as I couldn't find what I want.

My personal preference is to use a third-party launcher to overlay certain graphical satisfaction. Nova Launcher works perfectly with some tweaks. By setting the launcher as default and locked the application under recent app to prevent from clearing away.

Do you remember the 'Edge Sense' lighting on the Samsung Galaxy phones previously? The Find X allows the user to set the prefer curved panoramic light effects when notification or call flows in.

Within the pop-up camera is the pair of a rear camera at a 20MP main sensor and 16MP secondary sensor with a LED flash while the front camera is a 25MP sensor. Oppo promises the pop-up mechanism has been tested to 300,000 slides.

The front facing camera also supports 3D facial recognition and it using 15000 facial dots and intelligent analysis to unlock the phone. It takes less than < 0.5 seconds for the pop-up camera to rise and unlock it. Do note there's no fingerprint sensor and you're either rely on face unlock or the traditional pin or swipe code.

Find X's rear camera are equipped with a dual setup with OIS capability that able to capture the depth of field and also it is AI enabled which means it can auto detects the exact environment and condition to produce excellent images. Personally like the AI auto detection over others competitor as it did detect accurately. Images quality looks rich in color and clarity but the only let down is sometimes is might go overexposure. With some tweak, great images are achievable.

For explorers, there a few camera modes to play with such as professional ('pro mode'), panorama, portrait and emoji modes.

Here are the sample shots:

Verdict?
In my opinion, the Find X is almost a perfect smartphone to replace my daily driver. What's keeping me away is the lack of NFC and fingerprint sensor for second layer protection. It does make me remembers the greatness in OPPO's truly flagship like the Find 7/7A and N3. I'll be waiting for the next top tier phone from OPPO.

OPPO Reno2 - Back with Fin

OPPO continued the design aesthetics of its predecessor with an edge-to-edge screen with an adorable shark fin style pop-up camera. With twilight mist iridescent finishes-glass back. The package comes with OPPO's VOOC charger, Type C charging cable, OPPO wired earbuds and matching colour faux-leather soft touch casing. As my set was Sunset Pink. For those specifications is a welcome with the processor has upgraded from Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 to 730G. The difference between SDM 730 and 730G brought in better gaming experience and a 15% boost in graphics and that a plus to gamers out there. A huge bump up of battery capacity to 4,000mAh from 3,765mAh that comes equipped with VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 to fill up the battery juice as much as 51% within half an hour or so! So do not worry if you're on the rush out. With moderate usage, my phone still left with 30%-odd with light gaming and heavy social media usage. The quad-camera setup is the new black, so let's welco

Huawei Mate 30 - A glimpse of Google-less phone?

To be honest, out of so many phones with great cameras. The one that caught my attention the most are from Huawei as they partnership with Leica and love the way how Huawei paired up with various type camera sensors onto it. Then came along the infamous widely ban that affects Huawei that limits them from business dealings with United States companies. That includes those Google services on the phone. Huawei quickly reacts and building up their operating system - Hongmeng and it owns Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). But such a ban does not affect Huawei's customer-based, people finding a way to install Google services onto it and it does works smoothly (besides no Google Pay and Netflix limited of Widevine rating). Let's dive back to the phone topic itself - Huawei Mate 30. At first, I was sceptical about it as heard rave opinions on services unable to run on it. After months of thoughts, I'm ready to jump on board and found a way to install GMS. No issue with google sync
